It establishes best-practices guidelines based on a comprehensive survey of the Fortune 1000 companies’ Online Annual Reports. The reports have been reviewed and graded according to their form and features. “The Online Annual Report Grades of the Fortune 1000″ PDF (below) has live links to the all the reports included in the survey. The data and results presented can be use by Annual Report producers to:
1) Evaluate their own 2008 Online Annual Report as compared to those of the Fortune 1000

2) Make informed decisions about how to approach their 2009 Online Annual Report—a web-based document whose time has come.

Index to the Online Annual Reports of the Fortune 1000

Our grading system categorizes the online annual reports of the Fortune 1000 by type and feature set. The system is based solely on features and does not evaluate the quality of design or content. Every effort was made to thoroughly review each report including any multimedia features. In some cases poor website navigation may have made it difficult to find a company’s online annual report or a portion of the report, impacting the accuracy of some results. Since we are relatively early in online annual report history, time and increasing sophistication will eventually lead to more rigorous and detailed standards.
